GameHammer Live Game Coding (Episode 11)

Tonight’s episode of Live Game Coding saw the start of a new game, Dirk Headstrong and the Martian Madness!

It’s a 3D game, built in 3D Construction Kit on the Amstrad CPC, and we had some fun getting to grips with the new game-making environment. This new game series is going to be a lot of fun, I think!

Thank you to everyone who came along and joined in on the chat on the Live Stream. I couldn’t have made as much progress as I did in this game without you – literally. Some of the tips that came in from Patrick Furlong and Steven Flanagan were especially useful and I think we all learned something from these two tonight.

Next coding session is on Sunday at 8PM UK time.

As always with Live Game Coding, you can download the game code as it stands at the end of this episode by clicking here.

  1. Hi Zoe, thank you for creating a fantastic series, I hope it continues long into the future. I would dread to turn a corner and encounter a real Bondak! At the end of part 1, I believe your blank message 2 contained zero character. Editing message 2 and entering 32 spaces might help, though there still may be a puzzle to solve with colour cell attributes… hope I can be able to watch part 2 live.
You mentioned that you have created a 3DCK game in the past. I was wondering, what is the name of that game, and has it been preserved or is it lost in time?
    Best regards,
    Steven Flanagan

    1. Hi Steven, thanks for commenting. Yes, the original game I made is sadly lost to time. I’m missing several of the “Stock Tapes” from my old PD Library and unfortunately ‘The Life of Nob T. Mouse’ (the 3D Construction Kit game I made back in the early Nineties) was on one of the tapes that has been lost. I recently checked my parents’ attic to see if it was up there but it’s not, so it’s likely that the cassette has been misplaced during one of several house moves while I was at university. Such is life.

    2. You are likely correct about the blank spaces in the second message. I will have to create a message that is all spaces instead of being blank, and try that – we’ll give it a shot at the start of Episode 12, when I continue making this new game. I hope it works because we can then re-use that message to clear later messages off the screen!
