New Amstrad CPC Game: Mr Cube! – GameHammer Classic Gaming

I was challenged to a one-evening Game Jam so, naturally, I accepted! The rules were simple: create a new game from scratch, in one evening – and do it live on YouTube!

I stream live on YouTube Mondays from 9:15 PM and Tuesday-Saturday from 8PM (UK time)

You are the pink square, your enemies are the asterisks. The higher the level, the more enemies on screen!

Since this was such a tight deadline, I went to my strengths and pulled in the trusty Amstrad CPC. Coded entirely in BASIC, it’s not the fastest-moving game ever but it does work and it’s pretty fun, too! The premise is simple: old Mr Cube has managed to get on the bad side of a bunch of toughs, so now he’s got to use his trusty ray gun (patent pending) to take them down!

Controls are O – Left, P – Right, Q – Up, A – Down and SPACE – Fire. You can also use the Joystick.

You can download the game for free here. I recommend using Retro Virtual Machine or JavaCPC to play it; unless you can get it onto your original CPC. Original hardware is always the best way, after all.
